Fernhurst is a privately owned cold storage and refrigerated transport and logistics company. As a major provider and Australian success story, Fernhurst has been operating for over 30 years from their Melbourne headquarters, providing service both locally and interstate. Fernhurst boast an impressive list of customers such as Coles, Woolworths and Heinz, to name a few.
Fernhurst has been utilising the Integriti security and access control system from Inner Range for several months now. Owner of Fernhurst, Graeme O’Brien, explains their need for a state-of-the-art security platform to meet their current and rapidly growing needs, importantly for both security and increasing operational efficiency.
Fernhurst selected the Integriti security and access control system from Inner Range due to its comprehensive integrations with Licence Plate Recognition and Biometrics
The project
Fernhurst’s newly built operational facility provided the business with an opportunity to reassess its security and access control requirements. Graeme was adamant he wanted “the best security system available” at the onset of the project.
The 7,070 sqm facility sits on a 16,185 sqm site and includes 388 sqm of head office space along with freezer, chiller and blast freezer facilities.
The challenges
When asked about the operational challenges the new system needed to address, Graeme was quick to highlight that managing physical access cards in a business with many contractors and temporary staff had always been an ongoing challenge.
Lost and unreturned physical credentials issued to drivers presented a risk that required administrator oversight.
Furthermore, Graeme was aware of the security benefits that biometric credentials provided over traditional proximity technology. He saw this project as the right opportunity to introduce this technology into the business.
The consultation
When it came time to select the right product for the business, Graeme, having received exemplary service and advice from Daniel Kennedy at Britech Security for many years, was more than happy to let him put forward a solution.
With many years of experience in delivering integrated solutions, Daniel understands the importance of choosing a reliable product that is flexible in its capacity to integrate as business needs change over time
The solution
Inner Range’s flagship product Integriti offers customers a solid integration platform while delivering proven reliability in access controller and security fundamentals.
Fernhurst’s facility takes full advantage of Integriti’s core functionality with excellent security coverage of access control and intruder detection through the entire facility.
To address the issues of physical access cards, Britech installed License Plate Recognition (LPR) Cameras, integrated to Integriti.
The outcome
Drivers and contractors no longer require physical access cards to enter the site; when a registered vehicle's license plate number is presented at the gate, the LPR cameras instruct Integriti to open the gate.
Suprema Biometric readers now secure the perimeter of the main facility, further reducing the need for physical access cards.
A recently completed integration to Suprema Biometric readers will “further streamline the enrolment and management of biometric credentials”, says Daniel. Ongoing integration to the ‘best of breed’ products is just one example of how Inner Range continues to provide ongoing value to its new and existing customers.
Since having the facility fully operational now for several months, Graeme has said that
Integriti has met and exceeded my expectations.
